The Indian government has announced scholarships for international students. These scholarships are available for all African students who want to pursue their undergraduate and postgraduate degrees in India. Indian government scholarships for African students come under the category of ICCR (Indian Council for Cultural Relations) scholarships. These are fully funded scholarships that cover tuition fees, medical facilities, and a monthly stipend to cover the students’ living expenses.

What is the eligibility criteria for the scholarship?
The eligibility criteria for the ICCR scholarships differs for each university, college and course chosen. The specific criteria is described on the application portal. however, the general requirements are as under:
- Nationality: African countries are eligible for this Indian government scholarship.
- Academic qualification: The minimum qualification essential for admission in the bachelor’s, master’s or PhD program is required.
- Age requirement: The age of the candidate must not exceed 40 years for undergraduate and 50 years for PhD programs. The minimum age is 18 years.
- Previous scholarship record: The students who have received ICCR scholarships earlier are not given priority.
- English proficiency: The applicant must be fluent in English language. He has to submit an essay of 500 words to proof his English proficiency.
- Medical insurance: Candidates will be required to undertake a mandatory personal medical insurance valid in India. It must have a minimum sum assured for Indian Rupees Five Lakhs per annum (Equivalent to US $ 6800) before traveling or on arrival in India from any insurance of their choice.

- Fill all the information asked in the application form.

Generally, the application deadline differs from course to course and degree to degree. But generally the deadline for submitting the application form is 31st May 2024.
