Date: 24 June 2017
Faisalabad: Nine people, including six members of a private TV channel and three Samaa TV journalists, were injured when a clash took place between the guards of University of Agriculture Faisalabad and members of the journalist fraternity.
Three Samaa journalists were among those injured in the incident.
The incident took place when Samaa TV staff sought entry along with some students who were earlier expelled by the university.
Earlier on June 11, it was reported that three students enrolled with the university were expelled for running a Facebook page that points to wrongdoings of administration.
Zubair Iqbal, Mohammad Asfandyar Jawaid and Ghulam Jillani were expelled under Students Regulation 1978 Clause IV over a year after a student named Kashan Haider was suspended in January 2016 for criticizing an event organized by the varsity
The guards stopped the media personnel from entering and an exchange of words took place, following which the guards assaulted the journalists.
The Samaa TV’s crew then called other journalists who gathered to protest against the attack on their fraternity.
The university’s security in charge Col (retd) Amir Butt came to resolve the issue between the two sides; however, he was also hit by a stone.
After which both sides started hurling stones at each other, resulting in injuries to six people.
The security in charge was taken to a hospital and said to be in critical condition.
Later on, police were deployed at the premises to prevent further deterioration of the situation. Police said that it did not receive any request to file an FIR.
